Mousinho Delighted To End Season With A Win

Boss reflects on Sincil Bank success

27 April 2024

Pompey had already wrapped the title – and promotion to the Championship – up with two games to spare.

But John Mousinho was still thrilled that they brought the curtain down on a memorable campaign with victory at Lincoln.

Will Norris saved Danny Mândroiu’s penalty in the second half before late goals from Myles Peart-Harris and Paddy Lane secured a 2-0 triumph.

And Mousinho was pleased that his side were able to provide the travelling faithful with more reason to cheer.

The Blues boss said: “I’m delighted. I know we didn’t need anything from the game, but to come to an in-form side and win in the style we did was great.

“We wanted to reward the fans and after a bit of damp squib last week, you could see what it meant to us.

“In the first half we controlled the game and as it wore on, we started to create some good chances, without being able to put the ball int the back of the net.

“Lincoln pressed us a lot higher after the break, but that opened up other parts of the football pitch and we looked really threatening on the counter.

“That’s where we scored both our goals and we could have had a few more, so I’m pleased with the win.”

Mousinho made six changes for the Sincil Bank contest, with Norris named captain in the absence of Marlon Pack.

He said: “Will made a massive save and has been outstanding for us this season. He’s a leader in the dressing room and on the pitch – that’s why we gave him the armband.

“Marlon’s been struggling for the past few weeks with his groin and hamstrings, but has been getting through it.

“We also gave chances to some guys and I wanted to see Ryley Towler at the back, which is why he came in for Sean Raggett.

“I wasn’t putting a team out just to give guys minutes, though – we thought that side could win and obviously we did.”
